MycoWro 2026: Poland’s mycologists meet in Wrocław, 6–8 November

Three days, two campuses, one national meeting

The Polish Mycological Society published its invitation on 9 September 2026: the Society’s fifth national conference will run from 6 to 8 November 2026 in Wrocław, divided between two universities. Wrocław Medical University hosts the opening day and Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences the second. Three bodies are named as organisers — the Department of Microbiology at the Medical University, the Department of Plant Protection at the University of Environmental and Life Sciences, and the Society itself. The announcement is signed by Katarzyna Patejuk and Emil Paluch for the conference secretariat.

A note on the name first, because it will trip up anyone searching. The Society’s announcement calls the meeting “MycoWroc”; the conference website and its domain both read “MycoWro”. The same doubling affects the Society’s own business meeting, which the announcement calls a Walne Zgromadzenie and the programme a Walne Zebranie. One general assembly under two names, scheduled for 18.00–19.00 on the opening evening.

What the programme actually commits to

Friday 6 November belongs to the Medical University. Registration opens at 9.00 in the foyer outside the Ludwik Hirszfeld lecture theatre at ul. T. Chałubińskiego 4; the conference opens at 10.00; the first panel session, on medical and clinical mycology, runs 11.00–14.00; lunch is 14.20–15.00. The afternoon moves to the main hall of the university library at ul. Marcinkowskiego 2-6 for the vernissage of “Piąte Królestwo”, the Fifth Kingdom, at 15.00–15.30 and a poster session at 15.30–16.00, before a second panel session at 16.15–18.00 back in the lecture theatre and the general assembly at 18.00–19.00. The day is run in collaboration with the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław, which supplies the exhibition — a collaborator rather than an organiser, and only the vernissage slot is published, not any run of the show afterwards. The conference site’s own co-organisers page currently returns a 404, so no wider list can be checked.

Saturday 7 November moves to the Centrum Dydaktyczno-Naukowe, building C3, at the University of Environmental and Life Sciences, for panels on biodiversity and interactions between organisms. Here the published plan is thinner than it looks. It gives a 9.00 start and a 14.00–15.00 lunch break, then two afternoon slots, 15.00–15.30 and 15.30–16.00. Against those four times it lists six items: two panel sessions, the lunch break, a poster session, the closing and prize-giving, and a visit to the Medical University’s forensic medicine museum. Which item fills which afternoon slot is not stated on the page, so it is not stated here either. The organisers also reserve the right to change the schedule outright, which applies to every time given above.

Sunday 8 November is a field excursion, 9.00–15.00, in the forests of Wrocław. The programme describes it in a single line: an inventory of Wrocław’s mycobiota, an outing around the region, and the “activation of senior experts” — a phrase the site does not expand, and one better left as it stands than guessed at. Arkadiusz Tyka is named as the guide. This is a session of the conference, not a public foray and not a collecting trip.

Deadlines, fees and the blanks

Registration and abstracts share a single deadline, 25 October 2026. The fee table lists six rates in Polish zloty and nothing else: 350 zł to attend in person, 150 zł for doctoral students and 50 zł for students on site; online, 100 zł with a presentation, 50 zł with a poster and 10 zł to attend passively. Payment goes to the Society’s account at PKO BP with the reference “Konferencja PTMYK 2026” and the participant’s name, and scanned data-protection consent forms go to mycowro2026@gmail.com. The page does not say what any fee covers, and it names no rate for Society members.

This is a Polish-language national conference. Neither source mentions English as a working language or an international strand, so it should not be billed as an international meeting. Equally, it is not closed to non-specialists: the Society writes that it will be an event for anyone fond of mycology, and the conference site lists popularising the discipline among its aims and describes itself as a welcoming place for students and doctoral students. It remains a scientific conference with a fee and an abstract deadline rather than an open day.

Both committees are published — organising: Marta Jurga-Zotow, Agata Kaczmarek, Katarzyna Pieczka and Joanna Barton; scientific: Marlena Lembicz, Kamil Kisło, Marta Wrzosek, Paweł Czachura, Marcin Piątek and Marek Halama. Those are committee lists, not a speaker list. No keynote programme, abstract count or expected attendance has been published, and none should be inferred from the committee names. Anyone planning to travel would do well to reload the site shortly before setting off: the organisers say plainly that times and places may still move.
